7 May 2008

Pay, academic freedom, the purpose of education, fighting against privatisation and combating climate change are just some of the topics to be debated by 圖朸厙 further and higher education members at the annual 圖朸厙 Congress later this month.

From Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 May, some 400 delegates will gather in Manchester for the congress. The union today publishes the full list of motions. The running order of debates will be confirmed at a later date.

圖朸厙 general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'A wide range of motions has been submitted by 圖朸厙 branches for discussion at our Congress. I am really looking forward to three days of lively debate in Manchester. With the recent attacks on both further and higher education, our congress represents the perfect opportunity to reaffirm our position as the defenders of education.'

Speakers confirmed for the three-day conference include Bill Rammell MP, minister of state for lifelong learning and further and higher education, and Christine Blower, acting general secretary of the National Union of Teachers.

The union will be providing regular updates from the congress floor on this website.
