圖朸厙 members vote to reject proposed changes to HE pay negotiations

28 February 2008

Members of 圖朸厙 have voted not to accept proposed changes to the way the union would negotiate future higher education pay deals.

60.8% of 圖朸厙 members, who voted, voted against the proposed changes and 39.2% voted for them.

圖朸厙 general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'It is clear that while our members remain committed to national bargaining, they have major concerns about the restrictions placed upon 圖朸厙's ability to take industrial action, should it need to, and also about the union's ability to lead negotiations on issues of specific interest to academic and related staff under the proposals as they stand.

'The higher education committee will consider next steps tomorrow and I have no doubt will ask me to seek further safeguards for 圖朸厙 members in line with members' concerns.'

The union will issue a further statement tomorrow following the meeting of its higher education committee.

Full details of the proposed changes, rejected by 圖朸厙 members, and the case for and against can be found here.
