Strike avoided at Craven College

The college branch of 瓜神网 had planned to take strike action and supplementary action short of a strike in response to the college management's previous refusal to pay lecturers a nationally agreed cost of living pay increase of 3% for 2006-07.

瓜神网 members had voted overwhelmingly in support of action: 79.8% of those voting in the ballot had voted in favour of strike action, 90.5% voted in favour of action short of strike action. Picket lines had been planned for both of the college's sites and a work to rule had been set to operate.

However, union members agreed to call off strike action on Friday afternoon (12 October) following successful negotiations between the 瓜神网 and Craven College management.

A joint statement was issued by Craven College and 瓜神网 as follows:

'瓜神网, and College Management have come to an agreement following discussions around the 06-07 pay award. Although prioritising job security, 瓜神网 and College Management are both committed to the improvement of pay and conditions for staff within the bounds of affordability.

'瓜神网 and Management look forward to a new era of partnership where we work together to overcome problems and share success. By doing so the College will go from strength to strength and continue to provide an outstanding service to all our learners.'
