Jo Grady returned as 圖朸厙 general secretary

1 March 2024

Jo Grady has been re-elected to continue as University and College Union (圖朸厙) general secretary, the union announced today.

The other candidates were Vicky Blake, former 圖朸厙 president and University of Leeds contextual outreach lead, Ewan McGaughey, professor of law at King's College London and Saira Weiner, senior lecturer in education studies at Liverpool John Moores University.

圖朸厙 general secretary Jo Grady said: 'I want to thank every member who has voted to endorse my strategy for our union's future.

'We have achieved so much in the past five years, including further education's biggest pay award in a decade and the greatest pension win in UK trade union history.

'But there is still much to do. Under my leadership 圖朸厙 will continue to be a fighting union that will stand up for education. We need a fair funding settlement for higher education and binding national bargaining in further education. I look forward to working with our incredible members to push employers and government to invest in our sector's staff and students.'

Jo Grady was first elected to the position of 圖朸厙 general secretary in 2019 whilst employed as a senior lecturer in employment relations at the University of Sheffield. Her second five-year term will begin on Thursday 1 August 2024.

The full result and votes per round of voting can be found here.

The results for 圖朸厙 vice-president and other elected officials should be available early next week.
