Westminster must follow Welsh lead in supporting students through pandemic

A new support package of over 瞿10 million for university students has been announced by the Welsh government. The money will be used to support students through the pandemic, including mental health support and support for students self-isolating.

The  come after the Welsh government provided over 瞿50 million to support Welsh colleges and universities in July.

Commenting on the support package 圖朸厙 Wales official Margaret Phelan said: 'This funding is a very welcome acknowledgement of the challenges students are facing during the pandemic and will provide essential support for their wellbeing.'

圖朸厙 general secretary Jo Grady said: 'The Welsh government has again gone further than Westminster in supporting students during this pandemic. In England, thousands of students have been forced to self-isolate in extremely difficult conditions after being encouraged to return to campus. The support package is welcome but we urgently need the Westminster government to follow suit and make a serious financial intervention to address this crisis.'
